Postdoc Positions in Computational and Theoretical Fluid Mechanics
Several Post-doctoral Researcher positions are open in Professor Lian Shen’s research group at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, for computational and theoretical studies of fluid mechanics in the following areas:
- Water Waves: Theoretical analysis and numerical simulation of nonlinear water wave dynamics, in the areas of wave-current interaction, interaction between internal and surface waves, air-sea interaction, nonlinear broadband wind-wave evolution, and coastal wave dynamics.
- Turbulent Boundary Layers and Atmospheric/Oceanic Flows: Fundamental fluid dynamics of high Reynolds number turbulent boundary layers, turbulent boundary layers at wavy surfaces, LES of atmospheric boundary layer over complex terrains, internal boundary layer, and upper-ocean turbulence under waves.
Candidates must have a PhD degree in a related field. Experience with computational and/or theoretical fluid mechanics research, along with a strong publication record, is required. Excellent communication skills in English are preferred.
Prof. Lian Shen’s research group is affiliated with the Mechanical Engineering Department and the Saint Anthony Falls Laboratory (SAFL) at the University of Minnesota located in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metropolitan area. SAFL is a multi-disciplinary fluid mechanics research center consisting of 20 full-time faculty members, over 20 research and administrative staff members, and many postdocs and students. With excellent research facilities, SAFL has been active in fundamental fluid mechanics research with environmental, energy, and biological applications. More information about SAFL can be found at http://www.safl.umn.edu.
The salary of the postdocs will be consistent with the applicant’s qualifications and the University of Minnesota pay scales. The postdocs will be qualified for health, life, and dental insurance programs and 22 days of vacation each year. Postdocs in Prof. Shen’s group will have ample opportunities for career development, including experiences in grant application, student supervision, project management, and collaboration with researchers inside and outside of the university for interdisciplinary research.
Highly qualified and strongly motivated candidates are encouraged to submit a CV, a cover letter summarizing recent research activities and research interests, names and contact information of three references, and representative publications to Prof. Lian Shen at [email protected].
